On Skyrim can you heal followers with potions?

I gave my follower on Skyrim some Healing potions. Will she use them when she is damaged or do i have to use the healing hands spell that i don't have yet..

    no, you need to buy the healing hands spell book from the Orc in the college of winterhold, or from the general store in Riverwood opisite the blacksmith

    Joe, the answer is no. Follower does not use the potions or food you give them. The Auto Heal when they take damage.

    I don't know about Healing hands yet, because i haven't got that spell yet.
