What should a cynical grunt sound like?

It depends on the character and what's going on in the play when the grunt is given. "Cynical" is the attitude that other people's motives can't be trusted. Usually cynical behavior includes breaking apart from "polite" conversation to expose what one views as the darker side of things. Cynicism can be subtle, obnoxious and graceless, seductive, irritating and repetitive, pushy, manipulative, ironically humorous, or innocent and unintended as in the cynicism of a teenager who has been homeless most of their life and views the world as a violent, neglectful place by default. With that in mind, re-read the section and try to think how that character might express that viewpoint there.
