i want to know what happens if a goldfish is kept in the dark as well as in complete darkness. its for science summer work and im totally lost of were to start the research.Please help!!
Actually keeping goldies in the dark does nothing to their health. It will cause their pigments to lighten but they will soon return with light added to the tank/pond. NO your fish will not turn white and stay that way that is a myth.
Most animals need light of some kind this provides the Vit. D they need to keep everything working, however some never are out during the day. That doesn't mean they don't get it.
Pigments with color don't really have anything to do with light, although it is very important for most living things. Try googling Importance of light in animals and see what you come up with.

It keeps tem awake and unhappy, put a big black or white (Any color) blanket on top of the tank so they can get some rest.
