iPod Reset Help w/o passcode Help!?

I have just recently bought an iPod from someone that has a passcode. They didn't reset it and said they had forgot the passcode and there was a way to reset it. How do I reset the iPod to brand new?

Update:

I tried doing what Alex said below but it said there was an error? Does it have to be with the smae computer it was connected with whenever they first got the ipod?

    Connect the ipod to itunes. Hold the ipods power button and home button at the same time until the screen on your ipod goes blank. Then release the power button while holding the home button. In itunes it should say recovery mode and you can restore the ipod like normal

    Go to iTunes and plug the iPod Into the computer then look to the left bar and the iPods name should pop up then click on it then a bunch of things will pop-up like how much of every thing it has and click iPod then click restore.

    You put it to recovery turn it off. Hold the home button and plug it into your computer. itunes will restore it then
